Sabado Gigante co-host threw out the first pitch el martes
Javier Romero, who has co-hosted the long-running variety TV show Sabado Gigante for 21 years, was on hand to throw out the first pitch at Marlins Park on Tuesday.
The show, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, attracts a viewership of about 100 million across the Spanish-speaking world. But Romero confessed he was still nervous about participating in the pregame ritual, because, as he said, "I go on international TV more often than I do this."
Nevertheless he was more prepared than some other first pitch-throwers, as he grew up playing baseball in Miami (in the pre-Marlins era) and idolizing New York pitchers like Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman and Sparky Lyle.
