Sir Paul McCartney, Nirvana rock out at Safeco Field
Sir Paul McCartney performs first concert in Safeco Field history
There was a palpable buzz at Safeco Field on Friday as a sold-out crowd filed through the gates early. But it was not the Mariners they came to see.
For the first time in its 14-year history, Safeco Field hosted a major concert headlined by the legendary Sir Paul McCartney.
The former Beatle rocked out for nearly three hours for the 47,000 fans in attendance, while the Mariners were off on a weekend road trip to Houston.
"It was tremendous," head groundskeeper Bob Christofferson said. "Everybody loved it, nothing but really, really good comments. It's a great venue for a concert. The sound was really good."
And to top it off, McCartney finished off his set by performing with former members of Seattle's homegrown Nirvana.
