Cubs Minor Leaguer dives to make a game-saving catch with the bases loaded in extra innings
Cubs Minor Leaguer makes a diving, game-saving catch
Cubs Minor League outfielder Jacob Hannemann stood in left field during the 12th inning of Thursday's Double-A matchup between the Tennessee Smokies and Mobile Bay Bears. The Bay Bears had loaded the bases with two outs, and Brandon Drury, the D-backs' No. 6 prospect, was at the plate.
When Drury sent a pitch sailing into the corner, Hannemann took off running and hurled his body forward into foul territory, laying out to make a diving, game-saving catch.
Had Drury's shot landed, the bases could've cleared and Mobile would've gone up 5-2 in the 12th. Instead, Hannemann's catch ended the inning. The Smokies walked-off, 3-2, an inning and a half later when Cubs No.4 prospect Kyle Schwarber singled home a run.
After having a hit of his own robbed last weekend, clearly Hannemann wanted to make a highlight reel catch to even things up a bit.
