Sox Sign Guy has a message ready for anything
Meet Richard Badger -- assistant dean at the University of Chicago Law School by day, Sox Sign Guy by night. Badger has been attending White Sox games (about 20 each year) for the past decade with signs in hand. He has a sign ready for nearly every occasion and nearly every player (all kept in a 20-pound bag).
Among the best puns featured are "MIRACLE ON 35TH STREET" (U.S. Cellular Field is located on 35th St. in Chicago), "SWEEP HOME CHICAGO" (a play on the song 'Sweet Home Chicago"), and "BLUE MAN GOOF" (when the umpires appear to have made a bad call).
The unique thing about these signs is that they aren't all positive for the home team. For example, if things aren't going the White Sox way, Badger will hold up a sign stating, "THIS IS A BAD SIGN." Nothing nasty or controversial, but a negative sign nonetheless.
White Sox play-by-play commentator Ken "Hawk" Harrelson has even has used some of Badger's puns on air. The Sign Guy is also open to suggestions. So here's the question: What would be your best baseball pun on a sign?
