Starting Nine: Clayton Kershaw rings in new ERA

Many things are happening -- on Cut4, in baseball and out there in the rest of the world. Here are nine you need to know about today:

1. Entering a new ERA
Clayton Kershaw fanned 11 over 8 2/3 shutout innings against the Nationals on Tuesday, lowering his NL-leading ERA to 1.40. The Dodgers ace also hit the 1,000-inning plateau during the start, and his career 2.70 ERA is now the lowest among live-ball era starters with at least that many innings pitched.

2. Allow Patrick Corbin and Matt Moore to re-introduce themselves
They're not CEOs of the R-O-C, but they're some of the best pitchers in MLB. Second-year starter Corbin notched his sixth win on Tuesday, leading the D-backs to a 2-0 victory over a hard-hitting Braves team. And the 23-year-old Matt Moore became the first Rays pitcher to start a season 7-0 -- striking out eight over six innings against the Red Sox.

3. Melky's precious
The former Giants left fielder received his World Series ring on Tuesday night, and then proceeded to record four hits during the Blue Jays' 10-6 win over San Francisco. R.A. Dickey also looked strong, allowing just two runs and striking out 10 over six innings.

4. 75,000 matchsticks + three years = one amazing Yankee Stadium replica
Caution: Very flammable. This Yankees fan created one of the most amazing stadium replicas we've ever seen and brought it to the Bronx before Tuesday's Mariners-Yankees game.

5. Have you ever played catch with a pro ballplayer?
Hyun-Jin Ryu did just that with a youngster at Dodger Stadium. Watch the Cute4 here.

6. Alexei Ramirez balls so hard
The White Sox shortstop powered a routine toss right through Adam Dunn's mitt on Tuesday. Real nice, Alexei. You owe somebody new leather.

7. Merengue with the Rays
First it was a magician, then it was a penguin and now Joe Maddon has hired a Dominican merengue band for the Rays clubhouse. There are also magical plantains hanging from every locker. Yep.

8. Baseball royalty
Prince Harry of Wales took a couple hacks off Mark Teixeira at Harlem RBI on Tuesday, hitting the ball pretty far. Free agent (007)?

9. T-Mac leads Spurs to victory
Well, actually, he only played about four minutes and blocked a couple shots -- but it was still nice to see him. Tony Parker tallied 25 points and 10 assists to lead San Antonio to a crucial Game 5 victory and a 3-2 series lead over the Warriors.
