Super Bowl Countdown: Seahawks' Legion of Boom pays tribute to King Felix
Seahawks' Legion of Boom pays tribute to King Felix
As we approach Super Bowl XLIX, we remember the moments when a few members of the Patriots and Seahawks osmosed through the cross-sports membrane and found themselves in the world of MLB. Today: That time the Legion of Boom took in a Mariners game.
In 2011, Felix Hernandez raised the 12th Man flag at CenturyLink Field. To return the favor and pay their respects to King Felix, the heart of the Seahawks defense attended a Mariners game against the Rangers in 2013. Did a bit of Hernandez's winning ways rub off?
Look at the facts: Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas -- known collectively as the Legion of Boom -- had front row seats to see Felix in action. Ten months later, the Seahawks won the Super Bowl largely on the strength of their defense. Now, Hernandez actually lost the game they saw, so there probably isn't causation, but there certainly might be some correlation there. He did record his 1,500th strikeout during the game, and you don't just see Hernandez in person and then win the Super Bowl by chance, you know?
And, according to Sherman, if the Seahawks and Mariners switched sports for a day, Earl Thomas would be the power hitter, Chancellor would be the "ball hawk in the outfield" and Sherman would be "something like King Felix on the mound."
If the Seahawks win the Super Bowl again, can we try to make that happen?
