The Anderson Monarchs are bringing back barnstorming
The evolution of baseball has left the days of barnstorming in the dust. Gone are the days of traveling troupes of players making stops across the country to showcase their abilities at sandlots and stadiums in cities both, big and small.
This summer, the Anderson Monarchs are hearkening back to those days as they embark on a 22-day, 18-city, 4,000 mile journey in their vintage 1947 bus.
The Monarchs are comprised of 10 and 11-year-old black ballplayers from South Philadelphia. They take their name from the famous Kansas City Monarchs, a former Negro League franchise that once employed Jackie Robinson.
