The end of the Ichi-Meter

For the past eight years, fans at Safeco Field could spot the Ichimeter, Amy Franz’s sign tracking Ichiro's hit total during the season. The original Ichimeter, used to track Ichiro's historic hit count from the 2004 season, is actually in Cooperstown. But the tradition has continued on season after season.

That is, until Ichiro was traded to the Yankees this week.

Franz has decided to retire the sign, but that doesn't mean that she will stop coming to the ballpark and rooting for the Mariners. As for Ichiro, she still plans on rooting for him ... but will never root for the Yankees.
