Meet the Pirates fans who retrieved Pedro Alvarez's 438-foot home run on Monday

Dustin Moffat floats in his kayak through the Allegheny River for most Pirates home games, though he's only seen one ball ever reach the water.

Pedro Alvarez (who actually accomplished the feat early this season) almost hit another in the drink on Monday.

With Michael Wacha pitching a no-hitter in the eighth inning of the Cardinals' 2-1 win over the Pirates in Game 4 of the NLDS, Alvarez crushed a homer over the right-center-field wall. The distance was estimated at 438 feet.

"Not often," Moffat described the frequency in which balls traveled that far out of the park.

Lamar Kincaid and Brenda Maranjo were sitting on the grass behind the park walls when they saw the ball hit a tree and roll into bushes. Kincaid, showing off some phenomenal #FANtasking skills, ran over and retrieved it.

"Never in a million years did I think that would happen," Kincaid said. "The fireworks went off right here. So I looked and the ball bounced -- and then it stopped. I ran and got it."

Kincaid gave the ball to Maranjo, who was celebrating her birthday.

"Great birthday," she declared.

A true Pirates fan, though, Maranjo said she'd happily give the ball back to Alvarez.
