And who is the heroic figure who can be credited for this momentous accomplishment?

None other than lifetime .242 hitter Greg Vaughn, who apparently convinced then-owner Marge Schott to drop the policy after he was acquired from the Padres.

We're not sure how Schott could have been so anti-facial hair.
