This squirrel is nuts for postseason baseball

Skip Schumaker and Daniel Descalso weren't the only scrappy creatures at Busch Stadium on Tuesday.

While the Cardinals were trying to build a rally in the sixth inning, play was stopped because a squirrel was spotted running through the outfield.

A bad luck charm perhaps? The very next inning, Jaime Garcia lost his shutout on a three-run homer by Ben Francisco -- who previously hadn't gone yard since May 25.

"Oh, we noticed that squirrel," infielder Tyler Greene said. "But we didn't know what to think of it, good or bad..."

Manager Tony La Russa, who founded the Animal Rescue Foundation, was linked to a possible adoption. His daughter, Bianca, thought the family might have a new pet by Wednesday, tweeting:

"Good bet, but I'd say 98% RT @MattSebek: There's a squirrel on the field at Busch Stadium. 96% chance it sleeps at La Russa's house tonight"
