Hunter robs Abreu, earns salute, takes bow
Torii Hunter has made a career of turning hits into outs as would-be base runners slow that two-bag sprint into a disappointed jog back toward the dugout. The 18-year veteran was at it again on Monday as the Tigers hosted the White Sox.
Hunter was playing right field Monday when Cuban slugger Jose Abreu came to the plate and lined a laser into the gap. Marcus Simien might have been able to score from first, but Hunter ranges to his right and makes a leaping grab on the warning track.
When Abreu got back to the dugout, he offered Hunter a congratulatory salute because he doesn't have to like it, but dagnabbit he's got to respect it. Hunter bowed in thanks.
