Trevor Cahill carefully decorated Josh Collmenter's hat with sunflower seeds
Since the dawn of mankind, we have attempted to illuminate the meaning of life by asking quantitative questions meant to help us understand more complex ideas. Examples include:
- How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?
- How many atoms are in the observable universe?
- How many sunflower seeds can a pitcher fit on the bill of his hat?
On Friday, Josh Collmenter and Trevor Cahill, pitchers/gentleman philosophers for the D-backs, attempted to definitively answer that final question:
As you can see, Collmenter is visibly sweating under the heavy philosophical pressure of the experiment:
On the bill of his cap he bears the weight of all of humanity's accumulated knowledge. Or maybe he's just worried about birds.
