Twins and Royals give nod to Negro Leagues

The Royals played the Twins in Game 2 of a three-game set Saturday at Kauffman Stadium in old-school fashion. They gave salute to the Negro Leagues, representing the St. Paul Gophers and the Kansas City Monarchs by wearing their throwback uniforms and honoring former players prior to the start of the game.

This marked the second time the Twins and Royals wore the uniforms of their cities’ former Negro League teams. The first occasion was in 2005.

Tony Oliva, who played for Minnesota from 1962-76, threw out the first pitch as part. Fans in attendance received a Kansas City baseball legend Buck O’Neil bobblehead.
