Blue Jays get gift of fate, watch as misplayed pop-up bounces foul

Blue Jays watch as misplayed pop-up bounces foul

Everything has been going the Blue Jays way this season. They're on top of the AL East, Jose Bautista and Adam Lind have OPSes over 1.000, Mark Buehrle leads the league in wins and Edwin Encarnacion hit 16 home runs in May to tie Mickey Mantle's record.

With Buehrle on the mound and Encarnacion at first base, it looked like their fortunes were about to change on Sunday. After Lorenzo Cain popped up a ball on the infield, that dastardly villain the sun showed up and Encarnacion missed it, flopping to the turf along the way:

Foul pop

Because this is the year of the Blue Jay though, no harm would come as the ball bounced foul. Buehrle would then get Cain swinging to end the at-bat.

Strikeout

Naturally, Encarnacion also hit another home run in this one and Mark Buehrle pitched eight shutout innings to become the first pitcher with double-digit wins. Just another day north of the border.
