David Ortiz faked a bunt before hitting a home run on the next pitch

David Ortiz faked a bunt before hitting a home run

David Ortiz is known for three things: Massive dingers, his love of hugs and his penchant for beating out bunt singles. Oh wait, I'm sorry, I'm thinking of Ichiro. Or Dee Gordon. Or Leonys Martin. Or literally almost anyone else. In fact, despite facing infield shifts every time he comes to the plate, the last time Ortiz bunted for a hit was May on 15th, 2012.

In his enire career, Ortiz has a grand total of six bunt singles (including an insanely high three in 2006 ... a year he led the league with 54 HR, natch).

And yet, Ortiz showed bunt against the Yankees on Thursday, forcing Derek Jeter to move in. Of course, it wouldn't matter where the infielders were positioned because on the next pitch, Ortiz hit a line drive shot over the fence for his 31st home run of the year.
