Reed Johnson tried to avoid a strikeout by throwing his bat at the ball
Johnson throws bat at ball ... literally
On Saturday, during a matchup between the Astros and Marlins, Miami outfielder Reed Johnson showed just how far hitters will go to avoid a dreaded strikeout.
Facing a 1-2 count in the top of the third, Johnson decided to swing at a Jarred Cosart curveball. Unfortunately, that pitch happened to be pretty far outside the zone.
So, Johnson improvised ... and threw his bat at the ball:
He wound up striking out a few pitches later, but at least he drove up Cosart's pitch count.
And you know, sometimes hitting coaches tell their players to "throw the bat at the ball," so it's possible that Johnson just takes his coaching really, really seriously.
