A few players forgot how to play baseball at Monday's Twins-Astros game
Twins, Astros, forget count and make strange play
There were already two outs when Astros starter Brad Peacock threw the fastball that started everything. Twins catcher Kurt Suzuki swung and missed, then exited the batter's box in defeat. Except, here's the thing - it was a 1-1 count:
So fine, baseball players lose count of things all the time. It's hard to keep all those numbers in your head when you have so many other things to think about. But Kennys Vargas, Suzuki's teammate (who was parked on first base), also thought that Suzuki had struck out and began walking off the field.
It should have been an easy out for the Astros. All it would have taken was a quick toss to (or first) to get Vargas in a rundown. But then, Houston catcher Jason Castro forgot where to throw the ball:
See, it's focused, well-oiled baseball like this that keeps us glued to our seats.
