A decade ago, Marcus Giles turned a double play while his older brother Brian slid right into him

Marcus, Brian Giles once faced off in a double play

I don't have any siblings. I never roughhoused with a brother, older or younger. I'll never know how one navigates the power dynamic of sibling rivalry. In fact, most aspects of sibling relationships are completely lost on me. But I have to assume that turning a double play while your older brother slides into you at full speed is worth some serious points.

Indeed, that is Older Brother Brian Giles sliding right into Younger Brother Marcus Giles 10 years ago Friday.

When the Padres visited the Braves on Aug. 21, 2005, the Giles brothers were pitted against each other. It was only a matter of time before they would come face to face. And when the Padres' Mark Loretta hit a blooper to Rafael Furcal in the sixth inning, Brian launched himself from first base to second, straight at his younger brother. But Marcus weathered his brother's slide and turned an inning-ending double play.

The Braves ended up winning, 6-2. After the game, do you think Marcus went up to Brian and whispered quietly in his ear, "Who's the older brother, now?" Did Brian have to cede his second helpings at Thanksgiving for the next five years?

Again, I have no idea how this sibling thing works.
