Watch Scott Van Slyke hit 2014's first homer

The 2014 MLB regular season is officially underway. The Dodgers and D-backs squared off in Sydney early Saturday morning (U.S. time), with the first game of the year ending with a 3-1 Los Angeles victory.

Outfielder Scott Van Slyke, who was only starting because Carl Crawford came down with the flu, had a big game in the opener. In the fourth inning he went to the opposite field for MLB's first homer of 2014, after very nearly hitting one in the second as well (it ended up a double):
