We honor the legacy of Hall of Famer Warren Spahn
He was a Cy Young Award wnner, a World Series champ and a 14-time All-Star. He led the NL in wins eight times and in ERA thrice.
Most significantly, Warren Spahn ranks sixth on baseball's all-time wins list -- and first among left-handers -- with 363 career victories. And that number could have been even higher had the former Boston/Milwaukee Braves hurler not admirably sacrificed three seasons serving in the Army during World War II.
On Saturday, we honor one of the best. The Buffalo native, who passed on November 24, 2003, performed the game's most pressure-packed task to perfection.
Spahn? He saw the art of pitching in much simpler terms:
"Hitting is timing. Pitching is upsetting timing."
