NBA champion Klay Thompson's brother has been called up to the White Sox, can straight mash

White Sox call Klay Thompson's brother up to MLB

If Trayce Thompson is half as good at hitting baseballs as his brother is at draining threes, the White Sox are about to be very, very happy.

On Monday, the White Sox announced that they'd officially called Trayce Thompson, brother of Golden State Warrior and NBA champion Klay Thompson, up to the big leagues. Trayce is a power-hitting outfielder recently ranked as the 15th best prospect in their system.

In 104 games for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights this season, Thompson was hitting .260 and mashed 13 home runs, including two multi-homer games back in June.

And if it's defense you're looking for, he's got some of that, too. Back in March, the Tigers' Marc Krauss thought it'd be a good idea to try to tag up and score on a line drive to Thompson, who was manning center field for the Sox down at Spring Training. Krauss soon learned the error of his ways.

We're not exactly sure of the baseball equivalent of scoring 37 points in one quarter of an NBA game, but we're guessing that Trayce is gonna have to put all of the tools on display if he wants to impress mom and dad at Thanksgiving dinner. MLB.com's Scott Merkin caught up with Mychal Thompson, Trayce's dad (a two-time NBA champ in his own right), and asked him what he thought of his son's passion for baseball:

"He walked around at 4 years old, no exaggeration, that kid walked around with a bat in his hand. Everywhere," said a beaming Mychal, speaking outside his suite at Monday's White Sox contest with the Rays, which marked the first Major League game for Trayce with the White Sox. "You had to be careful coming around the corner in our house because he might be swinging. You had to make sure he wasn't practicing his swing in the hallways. Ever since he could walk, baseball has been his game."
