This new commemorative All-Star Game glove was designed by a 17-year-old

17-year-old designs Wilson's new All-Star Game glove

We're all pretty passionate about baseball apparel, but as much as we hold forth about new uniform colors and stirrup socks, we're pretty far from making any of our dreams a reality. Not so for Trevor Smith of Oneonta, Ala., the 17-year-old whose design won Wilson's fan contest and became the company's actual All-Star Game commemorative glove:

The contest was a perfect fit for Smith (glove joke), because he's just really into sports apparel. He has a Wilson glove that he uses as an infielder on his high school's baseball team, but he spends a lot of time designing new ones. "Infielder gloves, outfielder, it doesn't matter," he said. "I customize all different kinds. It's just fun."

Since Smith is now a legitimate baseball fashion icon (Jose Altuve, Dee Gordon and Lorenzo Cain, among others, now have his glove), we asked him all of our favorite style questions.

What inspired you to design the glove?

It's the Reds, so I though there's got to be a lot of red, but I just picked whatever I thought looked best.

What's your favorite uniform set in MLB right now?

I'm a Red Sox fan and my favorite player is Dustin Pedroia, so I'd have to go with their red tops with white pants.

But my favorite color combo is the Royals. I really like baby blue. One of our [high school's] uniforms has pinstripes, and I think that's my favorite look.

High socks? Low socks? Stirrups?

I like high socks and low socks, but I love the stirrup look. For one of my high school uniforms, we wear knickers. It looks real classic. When you wear it you look like ballplayer.

Since you're a glove expert, settle this debate for us: Should you bring a glove to the game?

Absolutely. You gotta stay young as long as you can. You never know when that ball's gonna come your way. Absolutely you should bring a glove to the game.

You heard it here, folks -- it's OK bring a glove to the game, especially if it's this one:
