With the AP Stylebook outlawing 'dinger,' 'jack' and 'bomb,' here are 10 brand new synonyms

The Associated Press Stylebook, the go-to guide for editors, writers, obsessive grammar geeks everywhere, is making some pretty big updates to its sports section for 2015. On Friday, they released a sneak peek at the American Copy Editors Society conference:

Whoa is right. These are some pretty big changes. After all, I'm pretty sure the first draft of the Declaration of Independence read "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and that 'dingers' is a sweet name for home runs." 

But it's OK. If the AP doesn't like jacks and bombs, here are ten equally strong options to use with convenient GIF examples:

5. Whiplash

(Must not have been Bautista's tempo.)

6. Thor's hammer

7. No whammy, no whammy, no whammy ... whammy

8. Heavens to murgatroyd

10. Zinger

Yeah, these substitutes should work just fine.
