Workhorse vs. actual working horse -- who ya got?
On the hill for the Giants today: Matt Cain. The 28-year-old is a 16-game winner, a perfecto artist and a workhorse in every baseball sense of the word. He's started at least 32 games and tossed 200-plus innings in each of the last six seasons, with a 3.19 ERA over that span.
How do the Cardinals counter? With fellow 16-game winner Kyle Lohse, and an actual workhorse in the Busch Stadium parking lot.
When it comes to field-plowing, policeman-carrying or beer commercial-starring, I'll take the Clydesdale. When it's time to snap off a 3-2 changeup to Carlos Beltran, well, opposable thumbs are the only choice.
