World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient honored by Mariners on Memorial Day
World War II veteran Lt. Bruce Hullinger and Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. First Class Leroy Petry were honored before Monday's Padres-Mariners game at Safeco Field.
Lt. Hullinger, part of the Allied Forces D-Day offensive that stormed the beaches of Normandy, threw out the first pitch. Sgt. First Class Petry received a Medal of Honor for his service in Afghanistan and delivered the game ball to the mound.
"It was a tremendous honor," Petry said. "It's just a great opportunity to remind everyone across America that there are many men and women who have served and are continuing to serve -- and they still need our support."
