Yankees and Starkey Foundation team up to give New Yorkers the gift of hearing
The New York Yankees took part in delivering the gift of hearing to New Yorkers on Friday as they welcomed Starkey Hearing Foundation to Yankee Stadium.
During an all-day event, Starkey Hearing Foundation and its staff fit more than 100 children and adults with custom digital hearing aids. To help assist with the event, Yankees manager Joe Girardi and third baseman Alex Rodriguez stopped by to talk with the kids.
“It's just overwhelming, it's just such an amazing cause," Rodriguez said after his visit. "To be able to change kids, literally, to change their lives overnight, is remarkable."
"I have a 7- and a 4-year-old and the dialog that goes back and forth between parents and kids and friends ... it's just such an amazing tool, and for all of us, it's just an appreciation to know what's been given to us. And for them to have it for the first time is just remarkable.”
