Yankees fans may recognize that Oklahoma State quarterback

"I'm signing, there's no doubt. When you're picked by one of the best teams in baseball, it's pretty hard to turn that down."

That's what Brandon Weeden said after the Yankees selected him 71st overall in the 2002 Draft. You may remember that as the A's "Moneyball Draft." The Yankees probably remember it for taking Weeden nine picks before Detroit snagged Curtis Granderson.

Weeden -- then a 6-foot-5 reliever with a fastball in the 88-93 mph range -- heard about being drafted while on his senior class trip to Mexico. He'd go on to post a 19-26 record with a 5.02 ERA over five Minor League seasons.

After being traded to the Dodgers in the Kevin Brown deal and then selected by Kansas City in the Rule 5 Draft, he gave up the baseball dream in 2007 for a chance to walk onto Oklahoma State's football team as a 24-year-old freshman.

A skinny three-star receiver named Justin Blackmon showed up in Stillwater a year later, and now Weeden can look forward to being drafted once again -- this time possibly higher than 71st overall.
