Yankees rattle off nine straight hits against David Price, first to do it in 25 years

Yankees first team in 25 yrs with nine straight hits

There were plenty of playoff implications on the line when the the Yankees and Tigers squared off on Wednesday night. Coming into the action, the Tigers were tied with the Mariners for the second Wild Card while the Yankees were three games back.

With David Price taking the hill, the Tigers had to like their chances -- the 2012 Cy Young started the night leading the league in innings pitched while posting a career-high in strikeouts per nine innings.

But like an orthodontist at a thumbsucking fair, the Yankees hitters were able to find plenty of gaps and they knocked out Price after only two innings.

Even more impressive, the Yankees became the first team to string together nine consecutive hits since the Cincinnati Reds pulled off the feat against Bob Forsch of the Astros on Aug. 3, 1989

Nine hits

I feel like I'm watching the baseball version of this:

Strangely enough, over Price's last three starts (totaling 22 innings), he had allowed only nine hits combined.
