Year of the Hatter: Kluber and deGrom both attended Stetson University in Florida
Kluber, deGrom both former Stetson University Hatters

Before the 2014 BBWAA award season, Stetson University was a small college in central Florida that was probably best known for its role as the fictional South Central Louisiana University from Adam Sandler's 1998 film The Waterboy.

Now, it's going to have a reputation as an arm factory.
On Tuesday, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced that current Mets pitcher and former Stetson Hatter Jacob deGrom was the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year.
Then, 48 hours later, the BBWAA named current Indians ace -- and former Stetson Hatter -- Corey Kluber as the 2014 AL Cy Young Award winner.
With wins by ROY @JdeGrom19 and CY @CKluber Stetson is 2nd collegiate program with 2 MLB awards in same year. #BringTheNoise #GoHatters
- Stetson Hatters (@StetsonHatters) November 12, 2014While Kluber had a more traditional college baseball experience and was honored as the 2007 A-Sun Pitcher of the Year, deGrom's progression was a bit different.
The fall after Kluber had been drafted by the Padres, deGrom entered his freshman year at Stetson as a shortstop, but was slow to develop at the plate and shined in a few relief appearances over his first few seasons. As a junior, deGrom was moved into Stetson's starting rotation.
Yeah, that was probably for the best.
In 2014, Kluber and deGrom combined to go 27-15 over 376 innings and a 2.54 ERA and 413 strikeouts on their way to becoming the second fellow alumni to win BBWAA awards in the same season. (Fred Lynn won the 1975 AL RoY Award and the AL MVP Award while fellow USC Trojan Tom Seaver won the NL Cy Young Award.)
