Yoenis Cespedes introduces Citi Field fans to the rule, 'Don't ever run on Yoenis Cespedes'
Mets fans learn the rule, 'Don't run on Cespedes'
Mets fans had heard rumors. They had heard whispers from A's fans, from Red Sox and Tigers fans. They remembered seeing things, unbelievable things that seemed too good to be true. And since Yoenis Cespedes' first game at Citi Field on Aug. 1, they have waited for proof. Proof of the unerring rule: "Don't ever run on Yoenis Cespedes."
On Saturday night, they finally witnessed it firsthand.
After launching a pitch to the gap during the top of the ninth of a 3-3 game, the Pirates' Sean Rodriguez thought he could make it to third by the time Cespedes corralled the ball. He was, as so many before him, mistaken.
According to Statcast™, Cespedes' throw nearly hit 90 mph. That's the kind of throw that makes you sit back stunned, uttering the only thing you can: "Uhhhh...."
So yes, Mets fans. Now you may go and tell everyone you meet, "Yes, it's true. I have seen it with my own eyes. Do not ever run on Yoenis Cespedes."
