On the morning of G1 of the NLDS, was taking his scheduled COVID-19 test next to A.J. Preller. How did he find out about he was going to be making his ML debut?: "He asked me which pile I usually get my COVID test from. I was like, ‘I just grab one, I don't think they really care.’ He told me to grab one out of the big league pile."... Proposed to his now-fiancé Thayer in January 2021 in Florence, Alabama...Thayer plays volleyball at the University of Florida, and was the 2017-18 Gatorade National Volleyball Player of the Year, and Weathers was the 2018 Gatorade Tennessee Baseball High School Player of the Year...Ryan's sister, Karly, plays Division 1 basketball at the University of Alabama.

2022

Spent the majority of his season with El Paso (AAA), establishing career highs in appearances (31) and innings pitched (123.0) and tying his career high in starts (22, also: 2019 w/ Single-A Fort Wayne)....Posted a 6.73 ERA (92 ER, 123.0 IP) and Triple-A opponents hit .328 against him…his 31 home runs allowed were the third-most in all levels of Minor League baseball, trailing only Las Vegas’ Parker Dunshee (38) and Greenville/Portland’s Brian Van Belle (32)....Made 22 consecutive starts from April 7-Aug 23, going 6-7 with a 6.67 ERA (83 ER, 112.0 IP) and .325 opp. AVG…made nine consecutive relief outings to finish the season, going 1-0 with a 7.36 ERA (9 ER, 11.0 IP) and a .356 AVG....Reached 200 strikeouts in his professional career with his third and final strikeout April 22 at Las Vegas....Recalled from ELP on June 15 for his 19th ML start…allowed four ER and four BB while striking out three across 3.2 IP vs. CHC at Wrigley Field in SD’s 19-5 victory…optioned back to ELP the following day....Tossed a Minor League career-high 7.0 IP twice, once on May 4 at Sugar Land (3 H, 1 ER) and the other coming on July 7 at Sugar Land (9 H, 3 ER).

2021

Received the first regular season action of his career after making his ML debut in the 2020 Postseason, going 4-7 with one save and a 5.32 ERA (56 ER, 94.2 IP), 1.38 WHIP and .279 opp. AVG across 30 total appearances (18 starts)...Led MLB in pickoffs (9)…the most in the majors in a single season since Eric Lauer’s 10 in 2018…the Padres own three of the highest single-season pickoff totals since 2016: Clayton Richard’s eight in ’17, Weathers’ nine in ’21 and Lauer’s 10 in ’18...Forced opponents to ground into 11 double plays, 2ndmost on SD’s staff behind Joe Musgrove’s 13...In his 12 relief outings, he posted a 2.49 ERA, .231 opp. AVG and allowed 3 HR...in his 18 starts, he posted a 6.36 ERA, .295 opp. AVG and 17 HR...He became the 1st pitcher in SD history to allow no more than three runs across his first six ML starts...Three other pitchers had done that in the majors in recent years, but they were considered "openers" -- remove those three from the equation, and the last starter to allow three runs-or-fewer across his first six starts was LAD's Fernando Valenzuela in 1981 (pitched six CG during the peak of Fernando Mania)...Allowed one hit-or-fewer in nine of his first 12 career MLB appearances (six relief app, six starts), including Game 1 of the 2020 NLDS vs. LAD...On April 3 vs. ARI, he became just the 3rd Padre to earn a save in his 1st career regular season app...in 1985, Gene Walter (August 9) and Lance McCullers (August 12) did so within days of each other…12 days later on April 15 @ PIT, Craig Stammen recorded a 3.0 inn. save, making Weathers and Stammen two of just five Padres to record a 3.0+ inning save since ’99, with Brian Sweeney (Sept. 16, 2006 vs. LAD) being the last Padre to do so...Tossed 9.1-combined scoreless innings of two-hit ball in back-to-back starts vs. LAD on April 16 and April 22…in his first four career appearances vs. LAD (from G1 of the 2020 NLDS thru Sept. 12, 21), he allowed just one run across 12.0 IP (0.75 ERA)…allowed five runs on five hits in 3.0 IP on Sept. 29 @ LAD in his final appearance of the season...Optioned to El Paso (AAA) on June 15 before being recalled on July 1…remained with the big league club for the rest of '21 until Sept. 30 when he was optioned back...Prior to the All-Star Break, he was 4-2 with a 2.91 ERA (19 ER, 58.2 IP) in 17 appearances (11 starts), including a 1-0 record and a 0.40 ERA (1 ER, 22.1 IP) vs. the NL West...In the 2nd half, went 0-5 with a 9.25 ERA (37 ER, 36.0 IP) in 13 app. (7 GS)...SD was on the losing end in each of his final 14 app., including all 13 of his outings in the 2nd half...Exited his final start of the second half after just 2.0 IP and 29 pitches after injuring his ankle in the 3rd inning…placed on the 10-day IL on July 16 (retro: July 13) with right ankle inflammation, his only IL stint of the season...Faced the Marlins in his 1st app. of the 2nd half on July 24, tossing 4.0-shutout IP of 2-hit ball in SD's 3-2 loss...hit his 1st career HR in the 3rd to give the Padres a 2-0 lead...Worked in five consecutive relief app. from Sept. 1-25 for a 1.08 ERA (1 ER, 8.1 IP) with a 0.84 WHIP and .207 opp. AVG...Relied on four pitches: 4-Seam Fastball (43%), Slider (31%), Sinker (19%) and Changeup (8%). 

2020

Spent the campaign at the club's alternate training site before being added to the Padres' NLDS roster due to injuries to Mike Clevinger and Dinelson Lamet.

POSTSEASON: Made his ML debut in Game 1 of the NLDS vs. LAD on Oct. 6...did not allow a hit across 1.1 scoreless IP (2 BB, SO)...Was the 3rd ML player to debut in the 2020 Postseason (MIN Alex Kirilloff on Sept. 30 and TB Shane McClanahan on Oct. 5) and the 2nd pitcher in MLB history to debut in the Postseason (McClanahan).

2019

Made 22 starts for Fort Wayne in '19, striking out 22.8% of opposing batters while walking just 4.6%, en route to a 3.84 ERA and 3.17 FIP....Allowed 2 earned runs-or-fewer in each of his 1st 7 starts, posting a 1.78 ERA (6 ER, 30.1 IP) from April 4-May 26...His ERA never got above 3.84, the mark he finished the campaign at after 5 straight starts of 3 earned runs-orfewer to close out the season. 

2018

Began his 1st professional season with the Rookie-Level AZL Padres 2, making 4 starts (3.86 ERA, .211 opp, AVG) before a promotion to FW (3.00 ERA in 3 starts).
