Beat the Streak is back for the 2022 season -- and the $5.6 million prize is still up for grabs.

The idea is simple -- pick one player (or two) every day who you think will get a hit. The objective -- surpass Joe DiMaggio's record-long 56-game hitting streak -- is a bit more challenging.

But we are here to help with that. We'll provide BTS leaderboard updates and daily insights on favorable matchups in this space, as well as every weekday on the new “Beat the Streak Daily: Inside the Hits” podcast.

HITTERS TO TARGET TODAY

Juan Soto, Padres (vs. Giants)
With only seven games on the schedule Monday night, there are fewer matchups to exploit -- so why not just go with one of the best pure hitters in the sport? Soto has reached base at least once in each of his five games with the Padres, and there's a good shot that continues tonight with the Padres returning home to host the Giants.

Willson Contreras/Yan Gomes, Cubs (vs. Nationals)
Make sure to check who the Cubs plug in as their starting catcher in this one, but we're rolling with whoever it is. With Contreras happy to still be in Chicago following all of the Trade Deadline uncertainty, the veteran catcher is ready to rediscover the early-season form that made him an All-Star before a July slump. He has two homers in six games since the Trade Deadline, and now he's facing a pitcher in Aníbal Sánchez, who has served six homers in four starts since making his season debut on July 14. As for Gomes, it's possible he gets the nod tonight given his strong numbers against Sánchez. Gomes is 8-for-22 (.364) against Sánchez, with five of those hits going for extra bases (including two homers).

OFFENSE(S) TO AVOID

Giants (vs. Padres -- Blake Snell)
If you remove his rocky July 14 start at the hitters' paradise that is Coors Field, Snell has a 1.29 ERA in his other five starts since the beginning of July. That stretch includes a dominant performance against these same Giants on July 8, when Snell held San Francisco to just three hits over six innings while racking up 11 strikeouts.
