Play Beat the Streak now -- and lock in these picks

May 16th, 2022

Beat the Streak is back for the 2022 season -- and the $5.6 million prize is still up for grabs.

The idea is simple -- pick one player (or two) every day who you think will get a hit. The objective -- surpass Joe DiMaggio's record-long 56-game hitting streak -- is a bit more challenging.

But we are here to help with that. We'll provide BTS leaderboard updates and daily insights on favorable matchups in this space, as well as every weekday on the new “Beat the Streak Daily: Inside the Hits” podcast.

Let's take a closer at the action from yesterday and today:

HITTERS TO TARGET TODAY

Brandon Belt, Giants (vs. Rockies)
This is really about as good of a spot as it gets. Belt, who has already been swinging the bat well since his return from the COVID list, gets a prime matchup against Antonio Senzatela -- and it comes at the hitters' paradise that is Coors Field. Opponents are hitting a blistering .402 against Senzatela this season -- by far the highest among any pitcher with at least 20 innings. Belt is also a career .340 hitter with a 1.003 OPS at Coors Field -- each his best at any park he's played in at least 10 times.

Jazz Chisholm Jr., Marlins (vs. Nationals)
Chisholm has at least one hit in 13 of his last 15 games and he gets a solid matchup here against Nationals starter Aaron Sanchez, who has allowed exactly six hits in each of his four starts this season. Opponents are hitting .316 against the righty and, even if Chisholm doesn't break through against Sanchez, Washington's bullpen is allowing a .251 opponents' average -- third-worst in MLB.

Taylor Ward, Angels (vs. Rangers)
Ward has reached base safely in 23 straight games and he's hitting a blistering .385 with a 1.247 OPS this season. The matchup is nothing special, though Rangers starter Jon Gray is still settling in after a pair of IL stints in the season's opening month. Regardless, this pick is simply about the way Ward is swinging the bat -- and the quality pitches he figures to see hitting ahead of Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani.
