Phillies Minor League review for June 12-18

Players of the Week
Player - 1B Darick Hall, Lakewood... The 21-year-old Hall batted .320 (8-25) with three doubles, two home runs, a team-high 10 RBI, three walks and a 1.059 OPS in seven games played. He tied a season high with four RBI on June 14, the fifth of six straight games in which he batted in at least one run. Hall is leading the South Atlantic League with 49 RBI. He was selected by the Phillies in the 14th round of the June 2016 draft.
Co-Pitcher - RHP Adonis Medina, Lakewood… Medina, 20, made one start for the BlueClaws, striking out a career-high 12 batters over 7.0 scoreless innings on June 13. He allowed just three hits and two walks. Medina has now recorded double-digit strikeouts in three of his first 11 starts this season, and has 21 strikeouts in his last 13.0 innings pitched. His 11.19 strikeouts per nine innings pitched (75 SO, 60.1 IP) rank fourth among starters in the South Atlantic League in 2017. Medina was signed by the Phillies as an amateur free agent on May 29, 2014.
Co-Pitcher - LHP JoJo Romero, Lakewood… The 20-year-old Romero tossed 8.0 shutout innings in his start on June 16, allowing only four baserunners (4 H) while striking out 10 batters. It was his first career double-digit strikeout performance. Romero now owns a 2.01 ERA this season (16 ER, 71.2 IP), which is the fourth-best mark in the league. He was selected by the Phillies in the fourth round of the June 2016 draft.
Lehigh Valley IronPigs - International League North Division…45-24, 1st place… The IronPigs lost two of three to Buffalo and then won two of three from Syracuse to finish the week 3-3. Only the Trenton Thunder (46 wins) have more victories this season among all minor league teams.
Top hitting performers -C batted .333 (6-18) with a double, two home runs, five RBI, three walks and a 1.151 OPS… OF hit two more home runs and now is tied for second in the league in round-trippers behind only teammate Rhys Hoskins (17). Cozens also walked four times and scored five runs.
Top pitching performers -RHP made one start, allowing two runs over 7.0 innings of work with one walk and three strikeouts. He has the lowest ERA (1.68) and WHIP (0.68) in the International League… SHP Pat Venditte made three appearances in relief, allowing one run in 4.2 innings while striking out six batters… LHP struck out three and did not allow a baserunner in 2.2 innings over two appearances out of the bullpen.
Reading Fightin Phils - Eastern League Eastern Division…38-27, 2nd place… Reading won three straight games to start the week, and four of six total to pull into second place in the division. The Fightins have gone 12-4 in June, and had an eight-game winning streak from June 7-15.
Top hitting performers -OF Andrew Pullin was 11-29 (.379) with two doubles, a home run, four RBI and a stolen base. He has 36 extra-base hits this season… OF Carlos Tocci batted .429 (9-16) with a double, triple and four runs scored… 2B Scott Kingery doubled four times, bringing his league-leading extra-base hit total to 38. He also batted .280 (7-25) with four RBI and three stolen bases.
Top pitching performers -RHP tossed 5.1 innings in his lone start of the week, allowing one unearned run while striking out seven batters… LHP Austin Davis struck out 10 batters and walked none over 5.1 innings in relief… RHP Mario Sanchez started two games, combining to allow four runs (3 ER) in 12.2 innings of work.
Clearwater Threshers - Florida State League North Division…36-31, T-1st place… The Threshers played in only four games last week due to the Florida State League All-Star Break, going 2-2. RHP Jose Taveras earned the win in the All-Star Game for the North Team, while LHP Cole Irvin, LHP Jeff Singer, OF Herlis Rodriguez,C Deivi Grullon and INF Drew Stankiewicz all played in the game, representing Clearwater. With two games left in the first half, the Threshers sit in a tie with the Tampa Yankees, over whom they would have the tiebreaker, for first place in the division.
Top hitting performers -1B Wilson Garcia hit safely in all four of his games, batting .455 (5-11) with a double and two RBI … INF Grenny Cumana was 5-for-6 (.833) with two runs and a stolen base. He had a season-high four hits on June 15.
Top pitching performers -RHP Jacob Waguespack allowed two hits in 5.0 scoreless innings in his start last week. He has a 0.95 ERA (2 ER, 19.0 IP) since transitioning to the rotation… RHP Harold Arauz made one relief appearance, tossing 4.0 innings with just one hit allowed and three strikeouts… Taveras and Irvin each tossed a scoreless inning in the Florida State League All-Star Game, with Taveras earning the win.
Lakewood BlueClaws - South Atlantic League Northern Division…40-30, 2nd place… Lakewood played in seven games last week, and won their final six as they nearly pulled ahead of Kannapolis to win the first half. (Lakewood had one more win and one more loss, giving Kannapolis the edge in winning percentage.) During their six-game winning streak, they scored 36 runs and allowed six, holding opponents to one run or fewer four times, including two shutouts.
Top hitting performers -Hall was named Phillies Minor League Player of the Week after batting .320 (8-25) with three doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI in seven games… OF Carlos Duran was 7-for-18 (.389) with a pair of triples, a home run, seven RBI and two runs scored… OF David Martinelli batted .381 (8-21) with a double, stolen base and five runs scored. He has multiple hits in five of his last nine games… CF Mickey Moniak had a season-high four hits on June 14, and batted .304 (7-23) with a double, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base for the week.
Top pitching performers -Medina struck out a career-high 12 batters in 7.0 shutout innings on June 13. He was named Co-Phillies Minor League Pitcher of the Week… Romero was also named Phillies Co-Minor League Pitcher of the Week, striking out 10 batters in 8.0 scoreless innings. Romero allowed only four baserunners (4 H)… LHP Nick Fanti made one start, allowing two runs (1 ER) in 5.2 innings… RHP Sixto Sanchez threw 5.0 innings of one-run ball in his start against Hickory… In 5.2 innings of relief over three games, RHP Trevor Bettencourt struck out six batters and allowed just one run.
