BRADENTON, Fla. -- Adam Frazier will see extra reps in left field for the Pirates to start the spring.
With manager Clint Hurdle announcing that Gregory Polanco will be used exclusively in right and Starling Marte in center, the competition is on to fill the left-field spot. Frazier was among the players that Hurdle said would see increased time in left once Grapefruit League games start. Frazier, 26, was among the final position players to arrive to Pirates camp on Saturday and immediately saw action in a variety of positions. Frazier also took part in fielding drills at second base.
"Right now we have depth at second base, whether it be [Josh] Harrison, whether it be Frazier, whether it be [Sean] Rodriguez," Hurdle said. "He did get a baptism into left field last season."

Hurdle did say that he liked what Frazier could bring to the leadoff spot in the order as well.
"I just like the dynamic of him going up there," Hurdle said. "He's up there with intent. Some guys look to get on base. Not only is he looking to get on base, he has some bad intentions with the bat."
Quick turn around
With the time between full squads working out and the start of games being "the shortest he has ever seen," Hurdle hinted that he will likely start with pitchers throwing live batting practice as soon as Sunday's workouts.
"You want to get your front core, the five guys that are depth starters, you want to get them two bullpens and a couple of live opportunities before they start games just because you want them to build up and do things," Hurdle said.

Harrison and catcher Elias Diaz are the only players who have not yet reported to Pirate City this spring. Diaz is still dealing with the aftermath of his mother's kidnapping in Venezuela. Ana Isabel Soto, 72, was rescued last week three days after being abducted near Maracaibo. No expected arrival date was given for Diaz.
Harrison, who had publicly announced his desire to be traded over the winter, is expected to report on Sunday.
Josh Bell had previously reported but was given the day off on Saturday for personal reasons.
