SAN DIEGO -- Mark Reynolds jumped on an 82-mph slider from Kevin Quackenbush in the 10th inning Sunday afternoon, launching the pitch into the left-field stands of Petco Park to push the Rockies over the Padres, 3-2, for his 250th career home run. While Colorado managed just seven hits in the finale, it proved enough to support yet another strong start from Chad Bettis.
"I played an 18-inning game here a couple years ago, and that was no fun," Reynolds said. "This had all the makings of it. I was able to get a pitch up there and barely get it out of here." More >>
Bettis' scoreless inning streak came to an end after he allowed an RBI triple to Wil Myers in the sixth inning, but the Colorado righty still tossed seven innings and allowed two runs. His 14-inning scoreless streak was the second-longest by a Colorado starter this season.
"Chad's throwing the ball extremely well, using everything, using all four pitches," said Rockies manager Walt Weiss. "[He] did a great job for us. We seem to have a hard time scoring runs here so, you know, you got to get a good pitching performance from your starter and that's what we got from Chad."

Edwin Jackson turned in another solid start for the Padres. Charlie Blackmon proved to be the thorn in his side, as his homer in the fourth and RBI single in the fifth were the only hits responsible for driving in runs during his six innings.
"I didn't necessarily feel like I had my best stuff as far as strength-wise," Jackson said. "I knew I wasn't going to be able to go out and try to overdo it. I had to be efficient, make them put the ball in play. Six innings, two runs, you give your team a chance to win." More >>
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Hom(ers) away from home: Blackmon got the Rockies on the board in the fourth inning with his 25th homer of the season, which was also his 15th longball away from Coors Field -- tying Nolan Arenado for the most road homers by a Colorado batter.
"He's done a lot of damage on the road," Weiss said. "Last road trip, or two road trips ago, he went on a home run binge, and I was happy that it was all on the road because he wouldn't have got the credit if it was at home. But it just goes to show you our guys can produce whether we're at home or on the road -- and Charlie's a great example of that."

Rally starters: The Padres got on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Travis Jankowski and Myers notched consecutive extra-base hits. Jankowski scored on Myers' triple, and Myers would tie the game when Yangervis Solarte lofted a fly ball to center that was just deep enough.

Snag in the shift: DJ LeMahieu was positioned perfectly in the bottom of the eighth inning against Padres pinch-hitter Héctor Sánchez, and came down with a clutch leaping grab that potentially saved the go-ahead run from scoring. San Diego was threatening after a walk from Myers and a single from Solarte with two outs, but LeMahieu managed to spoil the rally with an impressive jumping grab.
"I thought it was over LeMahieu's head when he hit it," said Padres manager Andy Green. "It was just one of those topspin line drives that kept sinking. It was a really good at-bat, a really good swing and really close to winning the baseball game for us right there."

Quiet bats: The Padres didn't muster their first hit until the fourth inning, and they didn't put a man into scoring position until the sixth. After the game, Green called on his team to show a bit more fight at the plate. Bettis used just 65 pitches to get through the first five innings.
"The first few innings, [the at-bats] lacked any real competitiveness or fight," Green said. "I thought as the game went on the at-bats were better. ... It definitely wasn't our sharpest day offensively."

Rockies: Colorado flies to Arizona and will start a three-game series against the D-backs Monday, still trying to claw back to .500. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. MT, when Tyler Anderson will look to continue his recent success. The left-hander has allowed just four runs in his last three starts, with 17 strikeouts to six walks.
Padres: The Friars head to San Francisco and will open a three-game set against the playoff-hunting Giants on Monday night. First pitch is slated for 7:15 p.m. PT. After a rough outing in his last time out, Paul Clemens takes the hill, looking to find some consistency deeper in ballgames.
