Paul Arthur Clemens...married Marlee Broadrick on 11/19/11...couple has two children, Gracelee and Kashton...is 2006 graduate of Robinson High School (VA)...went on to pitch two years (2006-07) at Louisburg JC in North Carolina before being drafted for the first time...posted a 7-1 record and a 2.37 ERA (17 ER, 64.1 IP) in sophomore season (2007) and was drafted by SF, but did not sign...returned to Louisburg and went 4-3 with a 5.08 ERA (23 ER, 41.1 IP) in 2008.

2016

Split the season between Miami and San Diego, posting a combined 4-5 record with a 4.04 ERA (32 ER, 71.1 IP) and 53 strikeouts against 31 walks in 18 games, 14 starts total...Posted career bests overall on the season in several categories, including starts (14), ERA (4.04), opponents average (.262) and strikeouts (53)...Began the season with Triple-A New Orleans in the Marlins organization where he made 14 starts before having his contract selected by Miami on 6/19…made two starts for the Marlins before being acquired by the Padres off waivers on 6/28...In his 16 games, 12 starts, for San Diego he went 3-5 with a 3.67 ERA (25 ER, 61.1 IP) and 47 strikeouts against 23 walks...His first three outings with the Padres came in relief from 7/4 - 7/8 before making a spot start in a doubleheader on 7/20 at STL…made one more relief appearance after that on 7/26 before transitioning full-time to the rotation on 7/31 for the remainder of the season...In his 11 starts from 7/31 through the remainder of the year he went 3-4 with a 3.76 ERA (22 ER, 52.2 IP) and 39 strikeouts against 18 walks...Had his best month of the season in September when he went 2-1 with a 2.75 ERA (6 ER, 19.2 IP) in four starts...Worked a season-high 6.0 innings in his final start of the year on 10/2 at ARI, the Padres last game of the year, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out a career-high seven batters.

2015

Combined to go 2-5 with 5.73 ERA (31 ER, 48.2 IP) in 17 appearances among four teams in both Philadelphia and Kansas City systems...Opened season as member of Triple-A Lehigh Valley starting rotation, going 0-1 with 5.48 ERA (14 ER, 23.0 IP) in five starts before landing on seven-day DL with right ankle sprain on 5/7..Season high of 6.0 innings pitched came in first start of season, 5/13 vs. Syracuse...allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts and one wild pitch...Returned from DL on 6/16 and made one relief appearance with Single-A Clearwater before being transferred back to Lehigh Valley on 6/17...Released by PHI on 6/25 and signed by KC on 8/2...reported to Triple-A Omaha, where in five games went 2-1 with 2.57 ERA (2 ER/7.0 IP). Transferred to Double-A Northwest Arkansas on 8/18, and in five games (three starts), was 0-1 with one save and 7.47 ERA (13 ER, 15.2 IP). In first two appearances with Northwest Arkansas, recorded consecutive 3.0 inning relief outings. In first appearance, 8/19 at San Antonio, limited Missions to one hit and secured only save opportunity of season...After the season, made four starts in five appearances with Tiburones de La Guaira of Venezuelan Winter League...had 0-2 record and 4.86 ERA (9 ER, 16.2 IP).

2014

Made five different stints with the Astros, making 13 relief appearances and posting a 0-1 record with a 5.84 ERA (16 ER, 24.2 IP). Made 14 relief appearances and five starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City, posting a 6-3 record with a 4.08 ERA (21 ER, 46.1 IP) with 41 strikeouts against 23 walks.

2013

Finished the season with a club-leading four relief wins in 30 appearances...also made five starts, in which he posted a 3.71 ERA (11ER/25.2IP)...went 2-0 and did not allow a run in 6.1 innings across six Interleague games...was one of three Astros pitchers to make their first MLB start this season (also, Cosart, Oberholtzer)...the Astros finished their season with four rookie starters pitching well since July 12...over that time frame, Clemens, Cosart, Oberholtzer and Peacock combined for a 2.70 ERA (63ER/209.2IP) in their 35 starts... despite pitching well in Spring Training (1.69 ERA, 1ER/5.1IP), began the year with Triple A OKC and made one start before his first MLB recall on April 8...was the second player recalled by the club this season... spent the next four months in the Astros bullpen before being optioned to OKC on July 26...worked as a starter for the RedHawks, making five starts before his final recall on Aug. 27 ... made five starts to finish his season with the Astros...after beginning the year in a long-relief role for the Astros, worked his way up to a set-up role and earned seven holds...posted a 3-2 record with a 4.13 ERA (15ER/32.2IP) over his first 17 appearances (thru May 29)...had a 11.57 ERA (18ER/14IP) over his next 13 before his option on July 26 ... made his MLB debut on April 9 at SEA and tossed 4.0 innings in relief, earning the win...the only other Astros pitcher to toss 4+ innings and earn a win in relief on their MLB debut was RHP Don Wilson (6IP) on Sept. 29, 1966 at CIN...in his second MLB game, worked 5.1 scoreless innings of relief on April 15 at OAK, allowing just one hit...marked the longest scoreless relief app. by an Astro since RHP Shane Reynolds went 7.0 scoreless frames on July 17, 1994 at PIT...was also the longest relief appearance by an Astro since RHP Dave Borkowski went 6.0 innings (2ER) on Aug. 15, 2006 vs. CHC...had a solid run over a month and a half span from April 15-May 29, during which he went 2-2 with five holds and a 3.14 ERA (10ER/28.2IP) in 16 apps...allowed a .216 (22x108) opponent's batting average during that stretch...in his six starts with Triple A OKC, went 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA (15ER/30IP) ... allowed just a .235 (27x115) opponent's batting average in his 30.0 innings of Triple A work.

2012

Posted a combined 11-10 record and a 5.78 ERA (92ER/143.1IP) in 27 starts between Double A Corpus Christi (7g) and Triple A Oklahoma City (20g)...began his season at OKC, where he went 8-8 with a 6.73 ERA (76ER/101.2IP) and 68 strikeouts in 20 starts...fared better at home while with the RedHawks, posting a 5-2 record with a 3.09 ERA (16ER/46.2IP) in eight starts at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...played an integral role in Corpus Christi's playoff-push after joining the club on July 27...went 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA (16ER/41.2IP) and 37 punchouts in seven starts with the Hooks...earned two victories while putting up a 1.00 ERA (2ER/18.0IP) over his final three starts of the 2012 season...was named the August Pitcher of the Month for Corpus Christi...tabbed by Baseball America as the No. 27 prospect in the Houston system after the year

Combined to post an 8-7 record and a 3.81 ERA (61ER/144IP) in 26 starts for Double A Mississippi (20g), Double A Corpus Christi (5g) and Triple A Oklahoma City (1g) this season...acquired midseason by Houston from Atlanta as part of the Michael Bourn trade on July 31...after his acquisition, was assigned to Corpus Christi, where he went 2-1 with a 2.35 ERA (8ER/30.2IP) in five starts, which included a run of 19.2 consecutive scoreless innings...finished his season with one start at Oklahoma City... was a Southern League All-Star, in what was his fourth year as a professional

Went 2-0 with one save while allowing just three ER in 19.0 IP (1.42 ERA) for Rome (A) before his promotion to Myrtle Beach (High A)

2009

Appeared in 26 games, including 11 starts in second professional season...had a 3-5 record with a 6.04 ERA in 11 starts and was 3-0 with three saves and a 5.71 ERA in 15 relief appearances.

2008

Went 4-4 with a save and a 3.58 ERA in 14 games (9gs) between Rome (A), Danville (R) and the Gulf Coast League...recorded his first career save on June 1 at JCY and his first career win on July 11 vs. BUR (1ER/5IP).
