Padres 5-Tool Trade Academy

Every night, more than 1,000 young people sleep on the streets of San Diego. Many have aged out of the foster care system or faced other circumstances that left them without stable housing and without a clear path forward. Traditional vocational programs often come with barriers these young adults simply cannot overcome on their own. The Padres 5-Tool Trade Academy, a partnership between the San Diego Padres Foundation, Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts, and Urban Street Angels, was built to change that.

Youth ages 18 to 25 choose from 20+ trade paths spanning fields like construction, culinary arts, cosmetology, and healthcare, and receive full wraparound support including tuition, housing, transportation, and meals so nothing stands in the way of finishing. Since launching in 2022, nearly 80% of participants have secured employment and independent housing.
