Nate Trosky has scouted professionally for over 20 years. He serves and has served as a baseball clinician at various colleges & universities including Stanford, Santa Clara, Cal Poly, Westmont, San Diego State, Cal State Northridge, USC, Oregon State, Arizona State, University of San Francisco, University of San Diego, Loyola Marymount University, Cal State Monterey Bay, and University of California Santa Barbara. He coaches with Area Code Baseball and has served as the New Balance Area Code Camp Director and with USA Baseball Breakthrough Series Player Development. He’s the founder and CEO of Trosky Baseball, one of the top Travel Baseball and College Showcase organizations in the country. Coach Trosky has contributed to over 10,000 players playing college baseball and over 500 in professional baseball, 40+ first round MLB selections, including some of the game’s best players (e.g. Bobby Witt Jr, Alec Bohm, CJ Abrams , Nico Horner, Nolan Arenado, Hunter Green, Royce Lewis, along with many others).

That's why we bring together a full lineup of experts from across the country to share instruction and inspiration for coaches of all levels to lead their team. From little leagues to high school teams, from first-time coaches to veteran coaches, these clinics are a great way to pick up new baseball and softball coaching skills, drills and philosophies.
We are proud to host our clinics in partnership with the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association and the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association. We are working together to cultivate a community of coaches that lead with passion, hustle, heart and fun!

Ty McDevitt was named head baseball coach at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in May, 2024, becoming the program's 16th head coach and only the fourth since 1948. In his first season, he led the Gophers to a 24–28 record and a Big Ten opening win over Houston. A former Gopher pitcher (2012–16), McDevitt has been part of the Minnesota coaching staff for eight seasons, including six as pitching coach. Under his guidance, the Gophers have produced a Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, two All-Americans, and 11 MLB Draft picks—including 2020 No. 3 overall pick Max Meyer. Known for his player development, analytical approach, and success in building elite pitching staffs, McDevitt helped lead Minnesota to Big Ten titles and a Super Regional in 2018. His pitchers have consistently ranked among conference leaders in ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP. A native of Apple Valley, Minn., McDevitt holds degrees in Sociology and Sport & Exercise Science. He and his wife Claire have two children, Mila and Max.

Matt McDonald is in his 31st season as head baseball coach at St. Olaf, having taken over in 1995 from Hall of Famer Jim Dimick. With a career record of 678–452 (.600), McDonald became the winningest coach in program history in 2021 and earned his 600th win in 2022. He has led the Oles to five NCAA Tournament appearances, three MIAC Playoff titles, and 22 seasons of 20+ wins. A four-time MIAC Coach of the Year, McDonald was named 2024 Region 9 Coach of the Year after guiding St. Olaf to its first regular-season title since 2007. His 2000 team set a program record with 36 wins and reached the NCAA regional final. Over his tenure, he has coached seven All-Americans, six MIAC Players of the Year, and four MIAC Pitchers of the Year. McDonald is a St. Olaf alum and former All-MIAC second baseman who also played quarterback for the Oles. A longtime leader in athletics, he previously served as the school’s athletic director and chaired the NCAA Division III selection committee. He lives in Northfield with his wife Barb and their two children, Katie and Tommy.

Paul Weidner is the Executive Director at Great Lakes Baseball Academy and a seasoned coach with experience across collegiate and summer leagues. A native of Randolph, Minn., and former three-sport athlete, Weidner played college baseball at Bethel University, where he began his coaching career immediately after graduating in 2015. He also served as Director of Baseball Operations at Great Lakes before landing a coaching role in the Cape Cod League in 2018. Later that year, Weidner joined Creighton University as an assistant coach, helping lead the Blue Jays to Big East regular-season and tournament titles in 2019, a deep NCAA regional run, and Big East Coaching Staff of the Year honors. He coached several future MLB players during his time at Creighton and returned to summer ball as head coach of the Rochester Honkers in 2021 before stepping into his current role at Great Lakes. Weidner lives in New Brighton, Minn., with his wife Olivia and their two children, Brooks and Palmer.

Tony Market has been the head varsity baseball coach at Lakeville North High School since 2005, following a decade as an assistant coach, including on the 2005 state championship team. Under his leadership, the Panthers have compiled a 242–108 record, made six state tournament appearances, and won seven conference titles. A two-time Minnesota Class AAAA Coach of the Year (2016, 2020), Market was also named the 2017 NHSBCA Region 5 Coach of the Year. A former college player at Indian Hills CC and Mankato State, he has coached at various youth levels and also serves as a football coach and PE teacher at Lakeville North. Market is a member of the Minnesota High School Baseball Coaches Association and the LNHS Legacy Builders Chapter. He lives in Lakeville with his wife, Stephanie, and daughters, Madeline and Julia, and enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and training the family dog, Hank.

Smith began his career as a teacher and coach at Totino-Grace High School in 1995. 31 years later, he wears multiple hats at Totino-Grace including Activities Director, Transportation Director, and Head Baseball Coach. He has been very fortunate to have gotten to play for and learn from two Hall of Fame coaches in Ned Thompson (Totino-Grace) and Dean Bowyer (Minnesota State - Mankato). Beginning his 19th year as the head coach for the Eagles, Smith has accumulated 5 conference championships, 3 section championships and 1 state championship (2024) and an overall record of 238-157. The relationships with his past and present players along with the opportunity to learn from so many other great coaches is what fuels him. Smith currently resides in Brooklyn Park with his wife Michelle and two children: Brynn and Tanner.

Butch Chaffin has been deeply rooted in USA Baseball for nearly two decades. After serving on three national team staffs and numerous Task Force and development program staffs, Chaffin will serve as an assistant coach and pitching coach for the 2025 Collegiate National Team Prospects squad and the Stripes Team during the Collegiate National Team Training Camp’s Stars vs. Stripes series. Chaffin was an assistant coach with the 18U National Team in 2010 and 2023, and with the 12U National Team that won a gold medal at the IV World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-12 Baseball World Cup in 2017. Chaffin was the longtime head coach at Cookeville High School (Cookeville, Tenn.) where he was named District 7-AAA Coach of the Year five times and the Region Coach of the Year three times. Thanks to his successes on the diamond, he was inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January of 2024. Prior to coaching at Cookeville High School, Chaffin was an assistant coach at Tennessee Tech for four years and a professional scout for the Kansas City Royals.

Alex Oglesby is a four-time USA Baseball Women’s National Team assistant coach, National Team Development Program coach, and former National Team player and Gold Medal winner. A standout player on the inaugural 2004 Women’s National Team, Oglesby helped win gold at the IBAF World Cup and earned All-Tournament honors after batting .364. At 17, she was the youngest player in the Ladies Professional Baseball League and led the San Jose Spitfires to a championship, earning Rookie and Defensive Player of the Year. She also co-founded the California Women’s Baseball League, where she was a two-time MVP. Since 2019, Oglesby has helped lead Team USA to multiple international medals, including gold at the 2019 WBSC Americas Qualifier and silver at the 2024 World Cup Finals. A fixture at USA Baseball and Major League Baseball events, she has coached at countless events including but not limited to MLB GRIT, Trailblazer Series, Breakthrough Series, and the All-American Women’s Baseball Classic.

Matt Magers is one of the winningest active coaches in NCAA Division II baseball, now in his 18th season as head coach at Minnesota State. He owns a career record of 675–216, a remarkable .757 winning percentage that ranks among the nation’s best. Under his leadership, the Mavericks have captured seven NSIC regular-season championships, eight conference tournament titles, and made 15 NCAA tournament appearances—including four trips to the NCAA Division II College World Series and a national runner-up finish in 2013. Magers has earned multiple Coach of the Year honors, highlighted by being named the NCBWA National Coach of the Year in both 2013 and 2025. A former Minnesota State pitching coach, he developed 10 pitchers who went on to professional baseball while leading national rankings in ERA and strikeouts per nine innings. Before entering the coaching ranks, Magers was a standout left-handed pitcher at South Dakota State and was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 16th round of the 1997 MLB Draft, spending two-plus seasons in their organization.
A native of Gaylord, Minnesota, Magers has built a program nationally recognized for its competitive consistency, player development, and culture of excellence. He is the father of two college baseball student-athletes—Louis, a senior at Minnesota State, and Wilson, a sophomore at Creighton.

After multiple years coaching collegiately at Viterbo University and the University of Illinois at Chicago; in the 2003-04 school year McDermott landed a Social Studies/Physical Education teaching job at Woodbury High School and began as an assistant coach for the Royals baseball program, helping lead the team to its first ever MSHSL State Tournament that year and advancing to the state finals before finishing runner up. In the 2008 season, he became Co-Head Coach of the Royals, and from 2009 to the present, has been the Head Coach of the Royals Baseball program. In 2016, the Royals reached their second-ever state tournament and finished 3rd, and in 2017, they reached their 3rd state tournament and finished 4th place. As head coach McDermott has seen 3 former Royals play for MLB organizations. The Royals have put together 13 straight winning seasons under Coach McDermott, and in 2025, he surpassed 250 wins. McDermott currently resides in Rosemount with his wife, Kelly, and four children, Ireland, Keagan, Kinley, and Kallen.

Mike Parker is a dedicated educator and baseball coach with over 25 years of experience. He played college baseball at the University of St. Thomas. Since 1999, he has been a Mathematics Teacher and baseball coach at Stillwater Area High School, mentoring students both inside and outside the classroom. Throughout his time at Stillwater, his teams have amassed a record of 301 wins and 114 losses, the highest winning percentage among active large school coaches in Minnesota. He has led teams to nine conference championships, seven state tournament appearances, and two State Championships. He has been recognized as an All-Star coach three times and was named State Coach of the Year in 2022. Mike has created a culture of excellence rooted in a team-first mentality. He believes success is not solely measured by wins but by building character, leadership, and resilience in his athletes. Mike and his wife, Darcey, are proud parents of five children.

Mike Kvasnicka is the Owner and CEO of Northstar Baseball Club, which he co-founded in 2016. A former standout at Lakeville North and the University of Minnesota, Kvasnicka was a two-time MLB Draft pick and spent six seasons in the Astros and Twins organizations, playing catcher, outfield, and third base. Drawing from his pro experience, “Kvas” has developed Northstar into a leader in player development. He also leads Northstar’s Complete Pitchers Program. Outside of Northstar, Kvas has coached at the University of Minnesota and served as head coach at Cretin-Derham Hall. He holds a B.A. in Youth Studies from the U of M and is passionate about teaching the game while helping players grow on and off the field. He lives in Minnesota with his wife Kimberly and their children, Mac and Morgan.

Nick Winecke has served as head baseball coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota since 2008 , and also holds roles as associate athletic director and admission liaison. Under his leadership, the Cardinals have become a consistent contender in the MIAC, earning eight conference tournament appearances and capturing the program’s first-ever MIAC Playoff title in 2021 — a season that also set a single-season record with 30 wins and included the team’s first NCAA Regional appearance since 1993. Winecke, who recorded his 200th collegiate win in 2020, was named MIAC Coach of the Year in 2014. His teams have posted multiple 20-win seasons, marking one of the most successful eras in program history. A Saint Mary’s alumnus, Winecke was a four-year letterwinner and All-MIAC First Team selection as a player in 2007. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Social Science and Secondary Education, and a master’s degree in Human Development.

Meet the Speakers

The 2025 season marks Hayden’s second year as the Sports Performance Coach for the Lynx of the WNBA. Before joining the Lynx, she held the same role at Stanford University, leading performance programs for women’s basketball and golf. Prior to Stanford, Hayden made history with the Minnesota Twins as Major League Baseball’s first female strength & conditioning coach. A St. Louis, Missouri native, she earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Missouri Baptist University and a master’s degree in human performance from Lindenwood University, where she also served as a strength & conditioning graduate assistant and later as an athletic performance coach. Hayden’s diverse background includes roles with USA Hockey development camps, EXOS in San Diego, and the University of Louisville. She is a Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association.

Bryan played college baseball at Augsburg University as a catcher and first baseman from 2004 to 2008. Since 2010, he has been serving as a rehab bullpen catcher for the Minnesota Twins. Notably, in 2014, Bryan was a bullpen catcher for the American League during the MLB All-Star Game held at Target Field. In his coaching career, he has taken on several roles, including lead instructor at the Minnesota Twins youth camps and clinics, and head coach and catching instructor for club baseball at Great Lakes Baseball Academy. Currently, he is an assistant and catching coordinator back with the Auggies. Recently, Bryan has broadened his catching instruction efforts by working as a catching consultant for St. Catherine University and serving as an in-house catching instructor for the MN ICE (2019 - 2021) and Midwest Speed (2022 - present) softball programs, contributing to the growth of the catching position in that sport as well.
Casey Borovac is in her eighth season with the Kansas City Royals, where she serves as Manager of Sport Development. She leads player development efforts, grows softball across Kansas City through Crown Leagues and school programs, and builds partnerships that expand opportunities for female athletes. A Westminster College graduate and former All-Conference softball player, Casey has coached since 2004, focusing on skill development, leadership, and confidence. She has over 18 years of experience with USA Softball of Kansas City, co-founding the USA Softball All-American Games and, in 2025, Kansas City Fastpitch—a nonprofit empowering female athletes. She lives in Blue Springs, MO, with her husband, Pete, and their children, Taylor and Peter.

Breck Dickey is the Sport Development Coordinator for the Kansas City Royals, previously serving as the Camps and Clinics Supervisor. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, a minor in Sport Psychology, and a master’s in Sport Management from Northwest Missouri State University, where she was a five-year Division II softball pitcher and ranks second all-time in strikeouts. Breck has over 10 years of experience coaching and developing youth pitchers.

Kristi Williams has led the Blue Springs South softball program since 2012, guiding the Jaguars to three Class 4 state championships, six Final Four appearances, and six district titles since 2016. With a career record of 210-84 (.714), her teams have posted five straight 20-win seasons, including 30 wins in 2021. Beyond her program, Williams serves on the NFCA Board of Directors as the High School representative and as Class 5 Vice President for the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association, where she helped establish a joint high school membership with the NFCA. A former standout at North Iowa Area CC and Northwest Missouri State, she’s coached dozens of All-Conference and All-State athletes. Most recently, she partnered with the Kansas City Royals to launch the area’s first Softball Summit, uniting coaches, umpires, and families to grow the game.

Kirk Walker has a distinguished career in both collegiate and professional ranks. Prior to his current role as General Manager of the expansion team Oklahoma Spark of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, Kirk served as associate head coach for the AUSL Talons, where he brought over 30 years of experience at the collegiate and international levels. One of the most respected names in softball, Walker has been part of seven NCAA championship teams and 19 Women’s College World Series appearances. He spent 23 seasons at UCLA, where he helped guide the Bruins to national titles in 1984, ’85, ’88, ’89, ’90, ’92, and 2019. Prior to that, he led Oregon State to national prominence, earning Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors in 1999 and 2005 and leading the program to its first WCWS appearance in 2006. A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports, Walker co-founded the Equality Coaching Alliance and was named one of Outsports’ 100 most powerful LGBTQ+ figures in athletics in 2024.

Mitch Roberts enters his second season as head coach of St. Cloud Softball in 2025 after leading the Huskies to a 36-18 record and a program-best 23 conference wins in his debut year. Under Roberts, the team set a school record with 60 home runs and posted top-five NSIC marks in home runs, slugging, OPS, and fielding. Roberts also engineered a standout year for the pitching staff, which ranked third in ERA (2.49) and recorded 291 strikeouts—the most for SCSU since 2015. Junior Trinity Junker became the first pitcher in program history to earn First Team All-NSIC honors, and freshman Emma Eickhoff posted a 10-3 record with a 2.86 ERA. Prior to St. Cloud State, Roberts served as the pitching coach at Cal-Berkeley, where he helped lower the team ERA by nearly two runs. He has also coached at Tulsa, Ball State, and Washington, mentoring several All-Americans and coaching in the Women’s College World Series. A former college baseball player at St. Ambrose University, Roberts holds a degree in Business Management. He and his wife Katie live in St. Cloud.

Piper Ritter is in her sixth season as head coach at the University of Minnesota, and 17th overall with the program. A former Gopher All-American and record-setting pitcher, Ritter has played a key role in the rise of Minnesota softball—both as a coach and player. Since taking over in 2020, she has guided the Gophers to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances, including a third-place Big Ten finish in 2023 and a fifth-place finish in 2024. She’s coached three NFCA All-Americans in the last two seasons, including 2024 Big Ten Player of the Year Jess Oakland and 2023 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year Autumn Pease. Widely regarded as one of the top pitching developers in the country, Ritter has mentored five of the top arms in program history, producing five All-America honors, 42 Big Ten Pitcher of the Week awards, and 17 no-hitters. Ritter was part of the staff that led Minnesota to its first-ever Women’s College World Series appearance in 2019, and has been named to multiple NFCA Regional Coaching Staffs of the Year. As a player from 2001–04, Ritter set numerous program records and earned four All-Big Ten selections. She graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and went on to play and coach professionally before returning to Minnesota full-time in 2008.

Kristi Villar joined the St. Thomas softball coaching staff as an assistant in September 2024, bringing a proven track record of offensive development and program-building success across all levels of college softball. Before St. Thomas, Villar spent two seasons at Santa Clara University, where she helped elevate the Broncos’ offense to new heights. In 2023, SCU saw dramatic improvements in team hitting, including 62 more runs and nearly triple the home runs from the previous year. Prior to that, Villar served as the hitting coach at South Dakota State, where she helped lead the Jackrabbits to multiple postseason appearances, including back-to-back NCAA Tournaments in 2021 and 2022. Her offense set a program record with 73 home runs in 2021, and SDSU regularly ranked among the Summit League’s best in nearly every offensive category during her tenure. From 2011–2017, Villar was the head coach at Northern State, where she led the Wolves to four 20-win seasons and was named NSIC Coach of the Year in 2015. She also spearheaded major academic improvements, raising the team GPA to 3.8 during her tenure. The Minnesota native is a former All-Region shortstop at Augustana, and holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s in educational leadership.
