Minor League Roundup
Daytona Tortugas –Single-A
Nick Sando allowed just one run in five innings during his first career start on Sunday. Sando previously came out of the bullpen for Daytona but was moved to a starter against Palm Beach.
Dayton Dragons – Advanced-A
Reds No. 8 prospect Carlos Jorge hit his third home run of the week, and second in two games, against Great Lakes on Sunday night. Jorge has nine home runs on the season.
Chattanooga Lookouts – Double-A
Carson Rudd tossed three shutout innings against Montgomery on Sunday. Rudd owns a team-best 1.93 ERA and has allowed a mere six earned runs over his past 36 innings.
Stewart and Lyons named Reds Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month
The Reds announced third baseman Sal Stewart and pitcher Jared Lyons as their Minor League Player and Pitcher of the Month for May on Tuesday. Both Stewart and Lyons play for Advanced-A Dayton.
Stewart proved his prowess at the plate in May. The Reds’ No. 7 prospect tallied 26 hits in 89 at-bats. Among those were eight extra-base hits – six doubles and two home runs. The 20-year-old brought in 13 runs and scored 15 himself. Stewart also led the Dragons in walks during May with 16 and had the second-best batting average at .292.
Lyons went 3-0 in four starts through May. He was a force on the mound and collected 28 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. The 23-year-old allowed just three runs on 12 hits, with three of his starts having three hits or less. Lyons did not allow a run in his May 4 and May 12 starts for a monthly ERA of 1.17.
