10 years ago today, Steve Bartman may have cost the Cubs their shot at the World Series

On October 14, 2003, Steve Bartman became one of the most notorious baseball fans in history.

Wrigley Field was hosting the Florida Marlins for Game 6 of the NLCS. The Cubs led the series, 3-2, and were up 3-0 going into the eighth.

When the Marlins' Luis Castillo hit a foul ball to left, Bartman -- a diehard Cubs fan -- let his excitement cloud his judgment. Along with several other spectators, he reached for the ball. Bartman's hands deflected it, spoiling Moises Alou's potential catch for a second out.

Florida went on to score a total of eight runs by inning's end, and after winning 8-3, would eliminate the Cubs with a Game 7 victory the next day.
