After Phillies-Dodgers trade, Rollins-Amaro duo will live on in Law and Order: SVU

Rollins-Amaro duo lives on in Law & Order: SVU

When Jimmy Rollins made his Major League debut for the Phillies, The Patriot and Gladiator were in theaters, Madonna's "Music" was the No. 1 song in America and Law & Order: SVU was about to start its second season on NBC. Now, 14 years later, Rollins and SVU are still going strong.

For people with taste and integrity, SVU died with the departure of detective Elliot Stabler following Season 12 and now only exists in those addicting marathons on USA (they start the next episode during the credits from the previous episode ... that's how they hook ya).

The other dozen or so of us that didn't bail on the show are up to our chests in Season 16. Detective Munch is gone. Benson adopted a baby from one of the cases and she's replaced Cpt. Cragen as head of the Special Victims Unit. Ice-T is still takin' fools to school about the dangers of new technology and the importance of morality.

IceT1

It's also important to mention that the new seasons of SVU prove that Jimmy Rollins and Ruben Amaro are actually fictional detectives in the NYPD.

In Major League Baseball, organizations are represented by two separate, but equally important groups: the players who participate in the games and the front office executives assemble the rosters. This is their story.

DUN-DUN

With all of the personnel changes imposed on the NYPD's 16th precinct, viewers were introduced to two new detectives in Season 13: an embattled female detective who transferred from Atlantas's SVU named Amanda Rollins and a hot-tempered, bilingual detective from Warrants and Narcotics named Nick Amaro.

That's right -- Amaro and Rollins work together in the Special Victims Unit.

Benson

While Rollins and Amaro weren't specifically partners, the two worked closely together and began a romantic relationship after Rollins -- a recovering gambling addict -- relapsed when pressure in her personal life bubbled up. For his part, Amaro was demoted after assaulting a suspect, but later regains favor with the NYPD brass witha by-the-book handling of a high-profile case.

For this analogy: Rollins is Jimmy Rollins, Amaro is Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. and their romantic relationship is the Phillies' 2008 World Series championship and the short window of incredible success that followed. Amaro's assault of the suspect is organization's inertia when that window closed and he can "regain favor with the NYPD brass" -- aka Phillies fans --with a potential Cole Hamels trade to represent the "by-the-book handling of a high-profile case."

Cpt. Cragen is Charlie Manuel, Sergeant Benson is Ryne Sandberg, Cliff Lee is Alex Cabot, Jim Thome is Casey Novak, Hunter Pence is Chester Lake and Roy Oswalt is Kim Greylek.

Trust us, the clues are all there. Pardon us while we spend the rest of the holiday season making a truther video to prove our hypothesis #Illuminati.
