Bartolo Colon shows off his speed, chases down baserunner to foil steal attempt
With plenty of attention being paid to new Cubs ace Jon Lester's difficulties throwing over to first base, Bartolo Colon showed off a new way to keep runners close: Sprint toward them and tag them out.
Just as the Mets starter makes up for his lack of hitting prowess with an overabundance of puppy-like enthusiasm, so, too, did he pick off Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynksi at first base on Thursday. Though Colon may not be the most fleet of foot, his hustle, knowledge of baseball trigonometry and rarely-discussed telepathic powers froze Pierzynski in place.
