It was a battle of sons as Van Slyke hit HR off Bochy
Former 20th round draft pick Brett Bochy made his Major League debut for the Giants on Saturday night. Even cooler, it was his Dad, Giants manager Bruce Bochy, who handed him the ball when he came in from the bullpen.
Unfortunately for the Bochy family, the end result wasn't what they hoped for as Scott Van Slyke (son of former Pirates outfielder Andy Van Slyke) hit a two-run home run.
It gets crazier from there. As pointed out by Jon Taylor, the homer knocked in Tom Gordon's son, Dee. Sadly, Drew Butera (son of Sal Butera) wasn't on base to really make things interesting.
Speaking of, here's a full lineup consisting just of active Major Leaguers and their Major League Dads. And yes, there is an extremely deep bench with Jayson Werth (son of Dennis), Wil Venable (son of Max ) and Neil Walker (son of Tom) available. I have also moved Dee Gordon back to shortstop so Robinson Cano has a place to play.
Hopefully we can get them all together for a Father-Son showdown.
