Bob Costas throws out first pitch, takes mulligan and throws out second pitch
Bob Costas throws out first ... and second pitch
Bob Costas and the MLB Network crew worked Tuesday's Reds-Cardinals game at Busch Stadium, and the broadcaster was given the honor of tossing out a first ball before the proceedings began.
Costas sauntered out to the mound, wound up and let loose a fastball that got away from him a bit, sailing well wide of the strike zone. Unsatisfied with his initial performance, Costas beckoned for the ball, insisting that he dust himself off and try again, dust himself off and try again.
Yeah, you could say he fared much better in his second attempt.
Said Costas on Wednesday's edition of High Heat: "No defense is required. If in your hometown the count goes to 1-0 and you don't get a second pitch and you can't even the count in your hometown, something is wrong."
