Five genius Nick Markakis promotions for the Braves to implement next season

Five genius Nick Markakis promotions

After trading their Gold Glove-winning right fielder to the Cardinals earlier this offseason, the Braves had a hole in the outfield. On Wednesday night, the team filled that position with another Gold Glover. As reported by MLB.com's Mark Bowman, the Braves announced the signing of former Orioles outfielder Nick Markakis to a four-year agreement, pending a physical.

With Markakis now in the mix, the Braves marketing department should have plenty of options as to how to promote the new acquisition. In the spirit of the holiday season, here are five ideas they are free to use.

1. The Nick Markakiss Cam

This one is just so obvious -- I mean, the word kiss is practically already in his name.

The idea does need a little massaging though. I mean, does a fan have to kiss the right fielder? Does Markakis have to kiss a fan? And how does Markakis' wife feel about all of this?

Fortunately, we have all of the offseason to figure out how to best implement this genius idea.

 2. Markakis Mondays

For every Monday home game, be sure to bring those IDs, Braves fans. Because all fans in the Georgia area named Markakis get a free hot dog. And if you happen to be named Nick Markakis, you get in for free.

A brief search revealed a small handful of Georgia residents with the surname Markakis, so they are going to be pretty psyched when they hear about this one.

3. Nick Markhakis Giveaway

Sorry, but all the best promotions are pun-related.

On this day, the first 20,000 fans in attendance will receive a complementary pair of khakis that are perfect for the office, golf course or an evening out at the local Chuckle Hut.

Even better, these khakis will feature Markakis' name and number across the backside, letting everyone know that you're not business casual, you're business coolsual.

4. Mark Nickakis Day

Now bear with me on this one. Not only will Nick Markakis wear the spoonerism version of his jersey (which will also be available from the team shop only on this day), but the Braves will also honor former NASL center back Mark Nickeas.

Even better, Nickeas' son is a professional ballplayer: Mike Nickeas, a catcher currently in the Blue Jays system. See? Full circle.

5. Nick Markakis or Abed from the 'Darkest Timeline'?

As you may have noticed, when Markakis grew out his goatee, he more than shared a passing resemblance to Abed from the Darkest Timeline.

Markakis Darkest Timeline

This one will require a little coopearation from Markakis and "Community" castmember Danny Pudi, but once they hear the idea, I'm positive they'll both be on board.

Once a week, either Markakis or Danny Pudi with a goatee will patrol right field. At the end of the first inning, one random fan will guess who is playing -- if they're right, they get a $50 gift certificate to a local facial hair salon.
