Giants clinch Wild Card spot, celebrate with champagne because, well, it's the postseason

Giants clinch Wild Card spot, spray champagne

While most postseason berths are celebrated after a hard-fought team victory, the Giants earned a Wild Card spot after the Reds beat the Brewers on Thursday afternoon. No matter the outcome of their game against the Padres that night, they'd be tasting that sweet champagne.

And taste that champagne they did ...

Yusmeiro Petit struck out eight Padres in 5 1/3 innings of work and the Giants scored runs in six of the eight frames in which they batted, but still had to eek out a close 9-8 victory. Hunter Pence scored the winning run on a successful squeeze play in the bottom of the seventh:

Then, Gregor Blanco made a sliding catch in center field to seal it up for good:

The guys broke out the postseason gear and celebrated on the field before retreating to the clubhouse to turn bottles of champagne into Super Soakers.

The Giants' fate has yet to be decided thanks to the tight race atop the NL Central. They'll take on either the Pirates or Cardinals for the right to move on to the NLDS.
