Jeurys Familia celebrated his NLDS-clinching save by hopping around on an invisible pogo stick

Familia celebrates by hopping on invisible pogo stick

Jeurys Familia had never recorded a six-out save before. So it made sense that with the Mets holding a 3-2 lead in the eighth inning of Thursday's Game 5 that it was the perfect time for the closer to come on out and do it.

Throwing only fastballs for his first 14 pitches, Familia then threw six straight sliders that dove and broke low and away as he retired the final batters.

And when it came time to celebrate the Mets' first NLCS appearance since 2006, he jumped upon his invisible pogo stick and leapt about. At least, I assume it was an invisible pogo stick because Familia's legs bent less than his sliders did.

The only other explanations:

- Turns out that both of Familia's legs were in casts, making his six-out save all the more impressive.

- He was trying to squeeze in a quick plyometric workout.

- He's actually a robot and his limbs need more oil.

Whatever the answer, I don't think the Mets are too worried about it. Familia pitched 5 1/3 innings in the Division Series without a single batter reaching base. They'll hope he can keep it going as New York takes on the Cubs at Citi Field for Game 1 of the NLCS at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday on TBS.
