Joey Votto submarine-tossed a ball to second to complete a masterful double play

Joey Votto's ridiculous throw completes slick DP

Good infield defense is pretty hard. It's so difficult that we're pretty sure it was one of Hercules' 12 Labors. Even though it's rarely published, right after killing the Nemean lion, the Greek warrior had to go join some Athenian pick-up game and turn a double play to prevent Sparta from scoring. It's history, we swear. 

But we bet even Hercules' double play wasn't as good as Joey Votto's in the second inning of Saturday's game against the Indians. With a runner on first, Votto snagged a grounder off Nick Swisher's bat, then submarined the ball over to second to complete the double play. Yes, submarined: 


Despite Votto's slick bit of defensive wizardry, the Reds still fell to the Indians, 2-1. But that's all part and parcel of the hero's journey. Hercules knows:
